In our college age group ministry we have been going over the names of God.
Psalms 9:10 "Those who know your Name, trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you."This last week we talked about Jehovah- Shalom,
The Lord is Peace. I believe that we, as Americans, have lost peace. In our society we have gotten so use to stress being an every day part of our life that we do not understand what true peace is. We look at peace as the time we have when the kids are in bed and we have a few minutes with our spouse to sit and watch TV. We look at peace as having enough money to spend it on extra things. We look at peace as our job is secure and our boss likes us. I don't think this is true peace and here's my reasoning why,
True peace is not dictated by our circumstances.
What happens when life changes those circumstances? Do we still live in Peace when the kids are driving us crazy and our spouse is irritating us? Do we still live in Peace when money is so tight we aren't sure if we will pay the bills this month? Do we still live in Peace when our job isn't so secure and our boss doesn't seem to really like us?
The Peace of God isn't just an emotion that happens when things are good, its a mindset when things are bad.
Phil 4:6-7 "Don't worry about anything: instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. THEN you will experience God's PEACE, which exceeds anything we can understand. His PEACE, will guard your hearts and mind as you live in Christ Jesus."In our society today its so easy to get worried or stress about everything. That is not what God wants for our lives. God wants us to have a peace that goes beyond our own comprehension and understanding. Anytime you fill anxiety or worry start to creep in Paul tells us that we need to PRAY about it. Not only pray for our needs but Thank God for what he has done for us thus far. This concept helps us take our focus off of the issue at hand and helps us remember all God has done for us in the past. If he did it then why can't he do the same now?
Knowing our God is faithful, and will come through for us in every circumstance is there really any reason we should have anxiety or worry?
